Laser Autofocus

Our hardware autofocus system provides real-time focus control for most infinity-corrected optical systems and is suitable for both life science and industrial samples.  The system can track reflective sample surfaces directly or be used to maintain focus on non-reflective tissues or cells by offsetting from a coverslip or other reflective surface.

Using a combination of advanced optics and an intelligent microprocessor, the hardware laser autofocus maintains focus by interfacing with stepper motor and piezo devices and creating a feedback loop to track the sample.

It is suitable for use with numerous microscopy techniques, including fluorescence, and even high-resolution advanced methods such as TIRF are also supported. The autofocus can significantly decrease imaging times, enhance microscope ease of use, or support time-lapse applications.

The system is also adaptable – optics can be swapped to support imaging outside visible light wavelengths, integration with other motor types can be facilitated, and output signals taken directly for interface with external devices.

The laser autofocus is compatible with a wide range of options for all major brands of microscope, including Leica, Zeiss, Olympus and Nikon. For integrating with a Nikon or an Olympus microscope see our automation guides:
