The OpenStand-U is a flexible and fully customizable system for upright optical microscopy and automated imaging. It is adaptable to most typical microscopy applications across life science and industry and can be interfaced with more complex high-end microscopy techniques.
The OpenStand-U features an optional episcopic illumination pathway with a multi-position turret. This facilitates widefield fluorescence or enables switching between brightfield and darkfield imaging, as is typical in industrial microscopy. The path is designed to provide as wide a field of view as possible with commercially available objectives. It can also be adapted to take dual light source input.
Diascopic Illumination
Transmitted illumination is the simplest and most common type of illumination used in microscopy and can be used to image a wide variety of specimens which have variable light absorbance. The OpenStand-U can be fitted with either critical or Köhler illumination, underpinned either by Prior’s own LED units or third-party light sources. Prior can support a range of condensers to support a variety of more complex transmitted illumination techniques.
Motorized Stage
The OpenStand-U is compatible with many of Prior’s flagship motorized upright stages, such as the H101A, ES111 and H101P2F, making it well-suited for slide scanning, industrial inspection or other automated microscopy applications. Travel ranges up to 150x150mm are supported.
Objective Changer
Prior is constantly developing new motorization hardware for OpenStand products. By motorizing the nosepiece, the correct optics can be moved into the lightpath, with the correct illumination settings, at the right time during an experiment without intervention from the user when supported by appropriate software. OpenStand nosepieces allow the fitting of objectives with various thread sizes.
Laser Autofocus
Our PF850 laser autofocus system provides real-time focus control by interfacing with the OpenStand-U focus drive or a piezo-based nanopositioning system and is suitable for both biological and industrial samples. The autofocus utilizes reflective planes either present in the sample itself or on associated glass interfaces, such as coverslips, to recapture focus.
Tube Lens / Camera Mount
Camera mounts enable a variety of cameras to be connected to the microscope for image capture. We offer C-mount, F-mount and T-mount options. The OpenStand-U camera mounts feature a built in tube lens which can be changed depending on the objectives being used, to optimize image quality and to correct aberrations and magnification errors. Many Prior camera mounts feature folded optics, improving the stability of the camera and reducing the vertical footprint of the imaging system.
