High Throughput Screening

Reliable and accurate sample scanning for life- and materials- science

High-throughput screening (HTS) uses robotics, imaging automation, and data processing to rapidly screen large numbers of compounds, biological samples, or cells for a particular property. It is used in a wide variety of fields, including drug discovery, cancer screening, materials science, and environmental testing.

Sometimes referred to as ‘slide scanning’, the process quickly identifies specific chemical reactions and/or cellular morphologies of interest for the researchers or technicians.

Speed, efficiency and accuracy

Because the process is largely automated with minimal handling, technicians are able to focus on the more valuable, specialized areas of work. Other benefits include:

Fast results: thousands of samples are screened in a short period of time. This can significantly speed up the drug discovery process or the development of new diagnostic tests.

Increased efficiency: with automation, it’s possible to screen large libraries of compounds or samples with a fraction of the time and cost compared to manual screening.

Improved accuracy: HTS can be used to measure the activity of compounds or samples with a high degree of accuracy. This can help to ensure that only the most promising compounds or samples are further developed.

High-capacity robotic sample handling from automation experts

We have over 20 years’ experience in manufacturing robotic sample handling systems. Both our PLW20 Well Plate Loader and the new SL160 Slide Loader offer high capacity for extended autonomous operation. They are fully customizable to suit a wide range of highly demanding applications in life- and materials sciences.

The systems ensure that samples are fully protected during loading and scanning by utilizing multiple sensors to detect correct sample status at critical transfer points.

All axes are independently controlled and encoded ensuring fast, accurate sample transfer as well as high speed and consistent imaging.
